A little comfort for me

A few weeks ago I had one of those days.... everything seemed to go wrong. I woke up late, had a cold shower, spilled ground coffee beans all over my kitchen floor and then the coffee ended up tasting sour. When a day starts off like this it is hard to pull things back together and tell yourself "it is going to be a good day." It was not a good day. CBC Radio 2 Shift talked about just this kind of day and a little something that can make it better... a comfort tune. Here are a few of my comfort tunes.

Romanitca - Drink the Night Away
Justin McRoberts - A Hope Deferred
Bon Iver - Skinny Love

Patty Griffin - Moses
The National - Slow Show

Thanksgiving in Saskatchewan

Matt and I decided to do a little pumpkin pie taste testing this Thanksgiving. We made pies from a can of pumpkin puree and the others right from scratch from a huge pumpkin. But before we could make the pumpkin pies we had to track down a pumpkin, which was a little trickier than we expected. We did not find a pumpkin in the small town local store, so we called a few phone numbers that had advertised pumpkins for sale, but with no luck. So Matt and I went on a little road trip to the neighboring town of Fort Qu'Appelle, where we tracked down a rather large pumpkin. After a little baking the night before and ingesting of a wonderful thanksgiving meal the next day we tasted it out... and found the one from scratch won.

Edmonton Folk Fest

This was my first time at Edmonton Folk Festival, I know its hard to believe. I have now lived in Edmonton for 10 years and this is my music. Why I have not gone before I don't know, but it will now be an annual event that I will not miss. I love folk festivals!

Delightful Days

It has been great to reconnect with some out of town and fellow E-town friends this summer. Here are a few pictures from some great summer days.

Summer Project #2

Summer Project #2 was a picnic blanket, and I had it finished just in time for us to use at folk fest. I have wanted to try to make a quilt for some time now so I decided to make one and use it as a picnic blanket. After a bit of trial and error here is my first attempt at quilting...

Summer Project #1

With a little spare time on my hands this summer I decided to tackle a few projects. The first one was to fix the ceiling in my bathroom and change the colour to something a little more warming. So after a few days of patching, sanding and painting here are the before and after pictures.

Sarah and Ryan's Wedding

On Saturday my friend Sarah got married and I was blessed to be able to go down to Brooks to celebrate this day with them. It was a hot one and as soon as we all stepped out of our cars on their ranch realized it was not only going to be a sizzler but also a day full of mosquito swatting. After a little bit of sun, catching up with friends and 'family', a little dancing and many many mosquitoes (44 bites on this body to be exact) the day was beautiful and so is this couple. Congratulations Sarah and Ryan.
